Pause

There is much that brings us comfort in our faith. It is encouraging to know that God is near.

But there is much about faith that is demanding too. We can't simply "sleepwalk" through life, believing that God is only caring.

In these next moments, consider what God really and truly wants you to be and wants you to do.

Listen

Do not deceive yourselves. If you think that you are wise in this age, you should become fools so that you may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.”

1 Corinthians 3:18-20

Think

A good party is more about meaningful relationships than wall-to-wall people, fancy foods, and a hipster DJ with an ironic name. Random discussions in a church van or impromptu laughter around a table often make the best parties.

It’s sad that we seldom think of these as parties, but what else do we call a gathering of people who are loving one another?

In today’s text, Paul was writing to a church that forgot the joys of simple relationship. They chose to argue about pointless issues and forgot to love one another as God loves them.

Are you focused on what is important? Being focused on God’s love is what our faith demands.

Pray

Lord, help me remember that my relationship with you and with others is what's important, and that everything else is foolishness. Let me always be an instrument of your love. Amen.

Go

God is love, it's true.
And to follow God is to grow in love.

Watch along the path of your life today
For opportunities to yield to love.
To give in;
To place yourself at risk
For that human and most divine virtue,
The most demanding of all.
