Back to School

Pause

Paul writes to the Colossians: “Take off the old human nature with its practices and put on the new nature…”

Pause – to consider what God is inviting you to hear and to see today.

Pause to consider what God is inviting you to “put on.”

Listen

Let the kindness of the Lord our God be over us. Make the work of our hands last. Make the work of our hands last!

Psalm 90:17

Think

As you read this you might be getting ready to start school. You might be headed to your office. You might be tossing down your caffeine or smoothie. Wherever you are – you are poised between where you’ve been and where you are going.

So, today, take a moment to remember an act of kindness that you experienced. Remember something beautiful that you witnessed over the past weeks or months. A moment of nice-ness that was offered to you. A pause in the meanness of the world that allowed for goodness.

Literally! Pause and remember. See the moment with the “eyes of your heart.”

Many young people have been on mission trips, attended camp or conferences. Parents and adults have sent and packed and prayed. Where in all of this did you experience kindness?

The kindness of others reflects the unending kindness of God. In the moment today – between where you’ve been and where you are going – take the kindness with you. Take what has been given to you and let it walk with you today.

Pray

“Make it last,” you tell me, God. “Make it last.” Thank you for the moments of kindness that I have experienced, God. I pray, in this moment, that you help me make the moments of kindness that I have received into something that continues and grows and lasts. Amen.

Go

Go – to put on love. To practice love. To offer the love that God gives to you to the world around you.
