Ordinary Time

Pause

If I just breathe

Let it fill the space between

I'll know everything is alright

Breathe

Every little piece of me

You'll see

Everything is alright

If I just breathe

"Breathe" by Michelle Branch (2003)

Today, breathe in God’s abundant Enough.

Listen

One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said, “A youth here has five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that for a crowd like this?”

John 6:8-9

Think

Andrew has journeyed with Christ for some time, yet it seems he still lacks the faith needed to understand the power of God. I imagine this young person standing eagerly ready to help. However, without hesitating, Andrew dismisses the gifts the youth has before him. Somewhere, a long time ago, in a land far away, I once read… “I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

As a dear friend once said, “It’s no wonder that children get Bible stories much more easily than adults. When we forsake the awe we had in the stories as children, we forsake the power and possibility of God empowering us to do this today.”

May we be present and prepared so that all can be suppliers of fish and loaves. And may we never use our power to silence the youth of today, for through them, we are reminded that what we already have within us is enough for the miraculous work God is doing right now.

Pray

Lord, may I see your miraculous work in all people, young and old. May I not stand in the way of your plans, but be an agent who works alongside you bringing the fish and the loaves to a hungry world. Amen.

Go

Do all the good you can,

By all the means you can,

In all the ways you can,

In all the places you can,

At all the times you can,

To all the people you can,

As long as ever you can.
