Ordinary Time

Pause

If I just breathe

Let it fill the space between

I'll know everything is alright

Breathe

Every little piece of me

You'll see

Everything is alright

If I just breathe

"Breathe" by Michelle Branch (2003)

Today, breathe in God’s abundant Enough.

Listen

Glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine by his power at work within us; glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus for all generations, forever and always. Amen.

Ephesians 3:20-21

Think

The story of the feeding of the five thousand reminds us that God can and is able to do more than we can imagine. Sometimes I find myself questioning: Can God do it again? Lord, do you see those who are hungry in our world? Where are the loaves and fishes for them?

And there lies the problem. We often find ourselves busy questioning God or even others for their lack of effort, rather than questioning ourselves. Yet, now is the time for us as Christians to act. Now is the time to believe God’s power is working within us and all of the Church.

Maybe the real question is: Do we really see those who are hungry? And are we going to do something about it?

Just as God instilled power and possibility in the youth who showed up with loaves and fishes, God has continued to instill power and possibility in the Church for many generations. We are the Church. May we allow the power at work within us to do far more than we could imagine.

Pray

God of all things, give me eyes to see your world and the needs that we, the Church, are called to respond to. And while we are responding, may we understand that it is not of our own doing, but your power at work within us. Amen.

Go

Do all the good you can,

By all the means you can,

In all the ways you can,

In all the places you can,

At all the times you can,

To all the people you can,

As long as ever you can.
