Accepting God’s call requires courage to follow. It’s normal to feel fear and self-doubt, but ultimately God knows we can handle the calling that God places on our hearts.

Are you listening for God’s call? Prepare yourself today to hear and respond!

Listen

When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then he said, “Come no closer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.”

Exodus 3:4-5

Think

“What made him Moses,” Barbara Brown Taylor once wrote, “was his willingness to turn aside.” When I think about this familiar story I sometimes wonder, what if Moses had received a text right before he came upon that lit-up bush? Would he have looked up? Or what if Moses had been running late for an appointment? Would he have kept going and missed the message that would change his life forever?

Our world tells you that if you want to be successful, then stay the course, put your blinders on and don’t look back. Update your status along the way, but don’t stop until you reach your destination. Yet God’s call often presents itself most clearly when we make the choice to go off the beaten path, to try something new, to let our minds and hearts wander, to observe stillness in the midst of everyday chaos. Extraordinary things happen when people stop to pay attention to God’s creative and mysterious presence.

Pray

Help me, Lord, to turn aside in the midst of my everyday chaos and turn instead towards you. Amen.
