Journey to the Cross

Pause

We too must walk the road to Jerusalem

with our Lord beside — with Jesus, our Guide.

It is a road we must all travel —

the place where we must go to lay down ourselves,

so that we may be raised up together with Christ in new life.

Listen

I thank you because you answered me, because you were my saving help. The stone rejected by the builders is now the main foundation stone! This has happened because of the Lord; it is astounding in our sight! This is the day the Lord acted; we will rejoice and celebrate in it!

Lord, please save us! Lord, please let us succeed!

Psalm 118:21-25

Think

One of my greatest childhood fears was not being picked or being picked last to be on “the team.” Since I was tall, lanky, and had no sporting ability, I sometimes was picked last. People judge one another based on appearance and performance, and sometimes base their acceptance of others on those things as well.

But have you ever seen someone later in life, and they looked so different you hardly recognized them? Have you ever “dissed” someone as being insignificant and then later discovered they were pretty cool? We are always changing and becoming. We can only see people for who they are now, but God sees us for who we are now and for who we will become. God sees and knows because God made us so.

The stone that at first looked to the builder to be useless, in time, became the very stone that the building could not stand without. Jesus, who at first looked like a small town carpenter who hung out with unsavory characters, turned out to be the savior of the world.

Pray

Thank you, God, that you do not judge me by appearance or performance, and that you see and know me for all that I am and will become. Help me to remember that from your first thought of me, you have had a plan and a purpose for me and that what you have planned and purposed for me will come to be. Amen.

Go

Love has made a way. Choose it.

Love has made a way. Walk in it.

Love has made a way. Share it.

Do not fear going to Jerusalem or laying down your life for the sake of others. Jesus has made a way, shown us the way, and will be our way through.
