Journey to the Cross

Pause

We too must walk the road to Jerusalem

with our Lord beside — with Jesus, our Guide.

It is a road we must all travel —

the place where we must go to lay down ourselves,

so that we may be raised up together with Christ in new life.

Listen

And when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up. “Who is this?” they asked. The crowds answered, “It’s the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Matthew 21:10-11

Think

We wonder about people who look different, people we don’t know, and who stand out in some way. Wherever Jesus went, he stood out. “Who is this man that even the wind and the waves obey him?” the disciples wondered. Amidst so much speculation, Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do you say I am?”

The question is one that all followers of Jesus should be prepared to answer. Being a disciple means knowing Jesus, but it also means sharing Jesus with others. Only when we know Jesus for ourselves can we truly share him with others, and that means spending time enough with him to develop a relationship with him as we would with any friend.

When Jesus rode into Jerusalem, people were there who had seen him but did not know him, and some who had met him but did not recognize him as messiah and king. We are to be living witnesses for Jesus Christ so that our words and actions help others to see him in us and know for themselves.

Pray

Sometimes it is hard to hear and know your voice, O God, amid all the noise and busyness of life. With so much to do, I get distracted and tired and just don’t take the time. Help me to resist the many temptations that keep me from spending time with you. Amen.

Go

Love has made a way. Choose it.

Love has made a way. Walk in it.

Love has made a way. Share it.

Do not fear going to Jerusalem or laying down your life for the sake of others. Jesus has made a way, shown us the way, and will be our way through.
