Ordinary Time

Pause

God is calling us to listen. God wants us to see what God is doing. Today whether for the first time or the thousandth time, we need to hear Christ inviting us to follow.

Listen

When everyone was being baptized, Jesus also was baptized. While he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit came down on him in bodily form like a dove. And there was a voice from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I dearly love; in you I find happiness.”

Luke 3:21-22

Think

Some were baptized as babies and do not remember it, but are grateful for it.

Some were baptized because they turned eight years old and decided that they were sick and tired of not getting to drink the grape juice at the Lord’s Supper.

Some have never been baptized because they have never seen any reason why they should be.

Jesus is baptized because he believes that God is calling him to a different kind of life.

When Jesus rises, the waters of the Jordan River dripping from his face, a voice says: “You are my child. I love you. I’m delighted with you.”

People who are baptized are to live a different life. They tell the truth in a world that lies, give in a world that takes, love in a world that lusts, make peace in a world that fights, serve in a world that wants to be served, and pray in a world that waits to be entertained.
