Ordinary Time

Pause

Pause. Breathe in. Where are you? Let it go. Breathe out.

Pause. Breathe in. What do you need to do today? Let it go. Breathe out.

Pause. Breathe in. God is here. Breathe out. Be here.

Be. Be you.

Let the you be.

Listen

Then Hannah prayed:

My heart rejoices in the Lord. My strength rises up in the Lord! My mouth mocks my enemies because I rejoice in your deliverance.

No one is holy like the Lord— no, no one except you! There is no rock like our God!

Don’t go on and on, talking so proudly, spouting arrogance from your mouth, because the Lord is the God who knows, and he weighs every act.

The bows of mighty warriors are shattered, but those who were stumbling now dress themselves in power!

Those who were filled full now sell themselves for bread, but the ones who were starving are now fat from food! The woman who was barren has birthed seven children, but the mother with many sons has lost them all!

1 Samuel 2:1-5

Think

What does it mean to be successful? I live in a world that tells me having things, stuff, cars, the newest iPhone — that is what life should be about. Everything around me is screaming for me to do more, to beat others, to win.

But God is not a God for winners or the mighty. God is the God of the hungry — God of the stumblers. And that God gives strength, houses the homeless, feeds the hungry, empowers the weak. God’s love brings joy.

Pray

God, you are the giver of all good gifts. Thank you for all that I have. Thank you for seeing me. Amen.

Go

Go. Breathe in. Where are you? Be there. Breathe out.

Go. Breathe in. What do you need to do today? Do it boldly. Breathe out.

Go. Breathe in. God is here. Be here. Breathe out.

Be. Be you.

Let the you be.
