Journey to the Cross

Pause

God is doing things in us and through us each and every day, whether we know it or not.

Listen: God’s voice offers a new perspective.

How will you listen and be changed?

Listen

I raise my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. God won’t let your foot slip. Your protector won’t fall asleep on the job. No! Israel’s protector never sleeps or rests! The Lord is your protector; the Lord is your shade right beside you. The sun won’t strike you during the day; neither will the moon at night. The Lord will protect you from all evil; God will protect your very life. The Lord will protect you on your journeys— whether going or coming— from now until forever from now.

Psalm 121

Think

We aren’t promised that the journey we are on as Christians will be easy. There will be mountains that will seem insurmountable, and sometimes it will feel as though there are so many potholes on the road we are walking that there is no safe way to keep going.

It is essential for us to remember during these inevitable hard parts of our journey that God never leaves us, not even for a moment. God is with us in our highest moments and at our lowest and loves us the same the whole way through.

How great is our God who refuses to leave us? We can take endless wrong turns on our journey, and our Creator is right there, never hesitating for a moment about whether we are worth it. It is a love that is beyond what we can imagine or return, and it is given freely. How great is our God?

Pray

Holy God, I cannot fathom the love you have for me, that you would stay by my side unconditionally. You give grace, mercy, and love so freely, and I am so grateful. Help me to feel your presence in times when the journey takes an unwanted turn, because I know you are present with me every step I take, whether it is in the right or wrong direction. Amen.

Go

Allow yourself to be open to the Spirit’s work in your heart.

Get comfortable with not knowing all the answers, placing your trust in God.

Go forth, born anew in the promise of God’s unconditional love.
