Children always share traits of their parents; there's no getting away from it, even when - usually as teenagers - we want to distance ourselves from our folks.

As a child of the Divine, what traits do you see in yourself that reveal something of your heavenly Parent? In these next few moments, take a look at yourself in the mirror of Scripture and see the lines of your glorious heritage there.

Listen

Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the worlds. He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word. When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

Hebrews 1:1-4

Think

Prophets and angels have something in common: they are messengers of God’s word. They carry messages from God, but Jesus is the message, the Word made flesh, the very essence of God in the world. When we look at Jesus, we see God.

Whenever we wonder what God is like, or what God is up to, or how God wants us to live, there is Jesus to show us the answer.

So should we worship Jesus or study him or follow him? The answer is yes!

Pray

Dear God, thank you for sending your message in so many ways. Thank you for letting me see you in Jesus. Help me to be more like him. Amen.

Go

Day by day,
Oh, dear Lord
Three things I pray:
To see thee more clearly,
Love thee more dearly,
Follow thee more nearly,
Day by day.
