Pause

It’s getting closer—and now closer. Moments follow moments until you reach the moment—the here and now.

No matter what comes before and regardless of what follows, God is always there, always in the present. No matter when. No matter where.

God is with you—here and now. Open your heart to know God better.

Listen

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own insight.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

Proverbs 3:5–6

Think

A few years ago, I was leading a youth pilgrimage to the Taizé Community in France and found myself in charge of reading the subway map in Paris. I was so worried about getting lost that I didn’t trust anyone else in our group to help me; despite my best efforts, we wound up getting on the wrong train and going several stops out of the way before I realized my mistake.

Today’s proverb is just good advice, especially on a Monday. Expect to worry; expect to get confused and lost. Life is filled with things to worry about and wrong trains to take. Don’t try to do it all yourself. Take some of the pressure off yourself and share those moments of worry and concern with God. Trust that God knows the whole story; God sees the big map.

Pray

God, I want to trust in you with all my heart. Help me to give up control and rely on you instead of on me. Guide me so I won’t get lost. Amen.

Go

Even while the seconds go ticking by,
Even as days pass, one and then the other,
Every moment is but a beginning.

Go into the moments ahead
Alert to the never ending promise
That every instant is inhabited
By divine companionship.
