And God said, “Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let the earth put forth vegetation: plants yielding seed, and fruit trees of every kind on earth that bear fruit with the seed in it.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed of every kind, and trees of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it was good. Think

When I think of a great artist like Pablo Picasso, the phrase, “created to create” comes to mind. Picasso painted fruit – lots of fruit – in bowls, on tables, on plates. Both Picasso and a fruit tree were created to create.

Our Creator had a perfect design that would reproduce on its own. Fruit having seeds right there inside, which possessed the potential for more fruit. Notice, God doesn’t immediately bring the creation into being with an even stroke of the divine brush. God, another great artist, takes time in creating: There was evening and morning, one day, two days, three days….

Bringing the creation into being over time indicates that creation is a dynamic process. It is ongoing. It is not finished—not even yet. And if the fruit trees are partners in creation, then we must also be. What were you created to create? It may not be one single wonderful thing, but many! Let us bear fruit.

O God, I am no Picasso, but with you as the artist behind my brush, may I find the beauty inside that is meant to be offered to the world as my creation, my potential, my offering. Amen.
