Pause

It's always nice to go to a place where you feel comfortable and at home. But it's another thing to leave a sense of well-being and venture into the unknown.

Jesus calls us to be with him, but his call is also to go, to move into areas that are unfamiliar and even foreboding.

Still, it is good to remember that Jesus' promise is to be with us no matter where we roam. That promise holds for you now.

Listen

Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise. Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! Because of your great power, your enemies cringe before you. All the earth worships you; they sing praises to you, sing praises to your name.” Come and see what God has done: he is awesome in his deeds among mortals. He turned the sea into dry land; they passed through the river on foot. There we rejoiced in him, who rules by his might forever, whose eyes keep watch on the nations— let the rebellious not exalt themselves. Bless our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard, who has kept us among the living, and has not let our feet slip.

Psalm 66:1-9

Think

Which word does not belong? A) Sing; B) Praise; C) Worship; D) Rejoice; E) Come.

Today’s Scripture displays Israel’s rejoicing for God’s goodness. But the author of today’s psalm includes this short phrase: “Come and see what God has done!” While it may seem that the word “come” does not belong, that is where we begin. We come to God in worship so that we can sing, praise, and rejoice.

When we bring our entire selves to God, not only are we reflecting on God’s goodness, not only are we praising and rejoicing, but we are also giving ourselves to God in order to be used by God. We come so that we can be SENT!

Pray

God of all things, today I come to you reflecting on all you have done. I come to you with a heart that is singing, praising, and rejoicing. Lord, today I come to you so that you may send me. Amen.

Go

Go.

Go where you are needed.

Go where you will find God –
In the eyes and
In the faces
Of God's beloved ones.

This is where you are being sent.

This is where you will find your work and,
Eventually,
Where you will find yourself again at home.
