Ordinary Time

Pause

Discovery is about exploring to find something new. On the road of discovery you may find a new world, a new perspective, a new person, or a new idea about the world.

God may have a good surprise in store for you today.

So, let us begin a journey of discovery. Let us seek out the goodness of God in this world. Let us take time to think about what “good" means to us. Let us praise God, for God is good.

Listen

O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you, I will praise your name; for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.

For you have been a refuge to the poor, a refuge to the needy in their distress, a shelter from the rainstorm and a shade from the heat. When the blast of the ruthless was like a winter rainstorm, the noise of aliens like heat in a dry place, you subdued the heat with the shade of clouds; the song of the ruthless was stilled.

On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear. And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; he will swallow up death forever. Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.

It will be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

Isaiah 25:1, 4-9

Think

My new puppy loves to chew on hands. When he was little this was adorable. As he got older it became annoying. As his teeth and jaw grew it started to really hurt. I wish I was a better dog whisperer and could make him stop.

There are things in this world that will chew on your life. At first they may seem like annoying little thoughts. Then they grow into big scary teeth that really hurt. There are many things in life that will chew us up and take our peace and joy; temptation, depression, lack of confidence, feelings of unworthiness and loneliness eat away at goodness and life.

Hear the best news of all! Christ our Lord is victorious over all those things that try to chew us up. In fact, God is bigger and better and swallows them up whole. God then prepares a victory feast for us. Do not fear, for God is good and brings new life. Death has no hold on us.

Pray

I call upon the name of Christ to swallow up the things that are chewing on me today.  Lord, take them away and let me live in the goodness of your light. Amen.

Go

Go out into the world looking for the goodness of God.

Go out with the courage and faith to trust in God’s goodness.

Go out with an open mind and heart.

You may discover something new.
