Pause

There are times that it may seem we have “outgrown” our faith. It is at times like these we can rediscover our calling to grow daily in the knowledge of Jesus and in our relationship with him.

Everyone is different, even as we are much alike. It is in the journey, one day following another, that we come to discover our true selves.

And it takes time. Moments such as these now help to provide direction.

Listen

For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13:12-13

Think

Today’s text is about the difference between seeing dimly and seeing clearly, knowing partially and knowing fully. Paul was trying to let the Corinthians know that they still had some room to grow in their knowledge of Jesus and relationship with him.

If we take Paul’s words to heart, we acknowledge that we also have room to grow. We have to say that we, too, only grasp a little bit of the truth and that there is still more to discover. It’s like looking into a clouded mirror—we just glimpse a dim outline.

But Paul gives us hope. We will see clearly. We will know fully. The dim and the partial will fade away. Love will remain, leading us to a fuller relationship with Jesus.

Pray

God who is beyond and within me, there is so much I don’t know. Thank you for the promise that someday things will be clearer. Help me to hope in Jesus, who knows me fully. Amen.

Go

There is a place for you and a time for you.
In the moments when it seems the world is a very awkward place,
Remember that it is still your home.

Gather with your friends;
Open your hand to strangers.
Determine that even in the tensions between
What is and
What could be,
You will trust in the Maker of time and space,
The One who is keeping you to the end.
