The Christ child is born!
All you who would find him,
prepare for a journey, as determined as the Magi.
All you who would praise him,
come with the faith to follow but a star.
All you who would worship him,
come with humility to the child
who shows forth the immeasurable riches of God.

Listen

Of this gospel I have become a servant according to the gift of God’s grace that was given me by the working of his power. Although I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given to me to bring to the Gentiles the news of the boundless riches of Christ, and to make everyone see what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things; so that through the church the wisdom of God in its rich variety might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was in accordance with the eternal purpose that he has carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have access to God in boldness and confidence through faith in him.

Think

When we think of saints, we usually envision extremely holy people who have achieved extraordinary things for the sake of God. But saints are simply ordinary people who have allowed God’s grace to work through them to touch the lives of those around them.

Like the author of today's text, we may consider ourselves to be “the very least of all the saints,” but we are called to be saints nonetheless. We are called to let the love of Christ be realized through our lives. And as saints, we can boldly and honestly approach God with our struggles and our joys. When we are truly honest with God, God is able to use us to change the world, one ordinary yet compassionate task at a time.

Pray

God, it is humbling to realize that the Creator of the universe knows me intimately and loves me unconditionally. In response to your great love, help me to live as one of your saints in this world, one who loves your people and your creation. Amen.

Go

See the child,
Gentle and kind,
Vision of God,
Image of the Divine.

Be the child,
Prepared to see
Images of God,
And all that will be.

All that will be.
