Following the Star

Pause

You are being called to journey, and no journey is easy.

Don’t be afraid for this is one you don’t walk alone.

Take a deep breath and get ready… your journey awaits.

Listen

When King Herod heard this, he was troubled, and everyone in Jerusalem was troubled with him. He gathered all the chief priests and the legal experts and asked them where the Christ was to be born. They said, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is what the prophet wrote:

You, Bethlehem, land of Judah, by no means are you least among the rulers of Judah, because from you will come one who governs, who will shepherd my people Israel.

Matthew 2:3-6

Think

Sometimes God’s presence pops up in the most unexpected places. For some, God shows up on a walk in the woods. For others, God’s presence is found in a good book on a quiet day. And for others, God is revealed through the presence of others. No matter where you might encounter the presence of God, it is not always where you’d expect.

When the Magi arrived at Herod’s palace in Jerusalem, they likely expected to find the newborn king there. They approached Herod, the current King of the Jews, with excitement and expectation. Yet in the midst of the highest of houses, they didn’t find the new king they sought. Much like God’s presence in the unexpected, ordinary moments of our lives, they find that Jesus is to be found in a humble town, not in the courts of the earthly seat of royal power.

In what unexpected places might you encounter God’s presence today? Where is God’s voice calling you to find Christ in the midst of your ordinary, everyday moments and situations?

Pray

God, help me to remember that your presence will not always be found in the expected places. Help me to look for you in the places where I don’t always think you’ll be. Amen.

Go

Christ is calling you to journey with him, to share his light with the world.

Where will today’s journey lead?

Only one way to find out…
