Following the Star

Pause

You are being called to journey, and no journey is easy.

Don’t be afraid for this is one you don’t walk alone.

Take a deep breath and get ready… your journey awaits.

Listen

They entered the house and saw the child with Mary his mother. Falling to their knees, they honored him. Then they opened their treasure chests and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Because they were warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went back to their own country by another route.

Matthew 2:11-12

Think

As a kid, I loved getting gifts at Christmas. Every year I looked forward to rushing to the tree and tearing open presents. As an adult, I’ve come to enjoy giving gifts almost more than I do getting them. There’s something about the way I’m able to show others that I care about them through the gifts I give.

In today’s passage, the Magi arrive at the house where Jesus and his family are living. Their journey of following the star is finally complete and they worship the new king by offering exquisite gifts to him. The irony of this moment is that, in his birth, Jesus offered a gift back to the Magi as well. His was a gift that would change their world.

As we journey toward the call of God on our lives, we are given the chance to offer that gift of Christ in the lives of those around us. We offer it through our skills, talents, opportunities and work. What gifts has Christ called you to share with the world around you today?

Pray

God who calls me, help me to see the gifts you’ve given me. Help me to remember that I am not only called, but also equipped to share the good news of Jesus with the world. Show me the ways you’re calling me to do that today. Amen.

Go

Christ is calling you to journey with him, to share his light with the world.

Where will today’s journey lead?
