Where God is, there is light.
Jesus came, bringing light into a dark world. Though there is still darkness, Jesus still comes, calling us to join him on the journey and giving us what we need – strength, courage, ability – to shed his light.
The promised one, the light of the world, welcomes us to follow him on the Kingdom way, the way of light. Let us turn our hearts toward him, and begin.

Think
Christ is a light to the whole world – and to each one of us.
When we can’t see the path ahead, his light shows us the way. When we feel cold and alone, his light warms us; when we are afraid, his light reassures and encourages us.
Following his light, we can walk into the darkness unafraid. Though there may be dangers (and there will be dangers), in his light we are not alone, and we are not abandoned.
The truth is, though, sometimes we simply don’t feel the light. There are times when the darkness seems overwhelming, and we can’t help feeling afraid. The psalmist can be our role model then, and lead us repeating this chorus of praise: “The Lord is my light and salvation; whom shall I fear?” When we speak out faithfully in the face of darkness, when we sing the songs and psalms of light, we tell the world – and ourselves – that God’s saving light is real. We say “I believe,” and in our testimony, the light glows.

I am often afraid, God. Give me courage to proclaim “I believe” and to follow you, even in the face of fear. Amen.

In every time, in every place, light breaks through the darkness. We don’t have to go far; God comes near and calls us, wherever we are, to follow.
So here, and now: let God’s light shine.
