Pause

It's hard, mostly impossible, to see the world the way God does. Caught up in our own lives, we see the world mostly from our own narrow points of view.

Perhaps in these next few moments, however, you can get a glimpse of what the Creator sees, and hear the message that God has for all the world to understand.

Listen

For the promise that he would inherit the world did not come to Abraham or to his descendants through the law but through the righteousness of faith. If it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. For the law brings wrath; but where there is no law, neither is there violation.

Romans 4:13-15

Think

Laws can be good. They are intended to form a civil society where the rights of individuals and groups are protected. The law of the Hebrew scriptures, the Torah, was written to guide, instruct and teach. It provided authoritative guidance that helped create community.

Yet a faithful life is more than following the rules. We need to look to faith.

Following the rules did not make Abraham a father of many nations. Abraham also trusted in God. Through faith Abraham received his blessings from God.

Pray

God of faith, help me to go beyond following the rules. Give me the faith to follow you and to trust in your promises. Amen.

Go

Go now with the assurance
That God has you in mind;
God values you and
Knows your potential.
Live this day knowing
That God has something for you;
God is making a difference
Through you.
