Ordinary Time

Pause

Sit.

Relax.

Be still.

Let the day wait.

Now is the time to listen with intention to God.

What do you hear?

Listen

But your loyal love, Lord, extends to the skies; your faithfulness reaches the clouds.

Your righteousness is like the strongest mountains; your justice is like the deepest sea. Lord, you save both humans and animals.

Your faithful love is priceless, God! Humanity finds refuge in the shadow of your wings.

Psalm 36:5-7

Think

A pink ceramic mouse sat on the shelves in my grandparents’ den. It stood on its back legs with its “arms” open wide. Emblazoned across its belly were the words “I love you this much.” I have forgotten which of us gave the mouse to my grandfather; maybe it was one of those shared gifts young children often give. My grandfather went to be with God over thirty years ago, and yet across all the years I can still feel his love. He loved that mouse because it was given to him from his grandchildren from a place of pure love.

The Psalmist reminds me God’s love is unbounded like that. It extends to the skies. God’s justice is as deep as the deepest sea. If my human grandfather’s love was as big as it was, I can only imagine how unlimited God’s love is for you and me. I can see evidence all around me that God loves me. What token of my love can I offer God to put on the shelves of heaven?

Pray

God, your gift of love is perhaps the best of all your gifts. Open my eyes to see your love; open my heart to receive it; open my arms to return it to you and to share it with others. Amen.

Go

Go into the world being the distribution point of all the gifts God has given you, so that the world may know God’s glory and believe.
