Ordinary Time

Pause

The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades.

God's presence deepens our joys, comforts our concerns, and settles our restlessness.

Take time to look into the brights and darks and grays of your day.

Seek the One whose glory shines in the light and through the darkness.

Listen

But Jesus came and touched them.Ā ā€œGet up,ā€Ā he said.Ā ā€œDonā€™t be afraid.ā€Ā When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.

As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them,Ā ā€œDonā€™t tell anybody about the vision until the Human OneĀ is raised from the dead.ā€

Matthew 17:7-9

Think

Up on the mountain with Jesus, Peter, James, and John experienced God’s divine glory in a truly human way: by their senses. They saw the brightness of Jesus’ face and they saw the Old Testament prophets. They felt the cloud descend over them, and they heard the holy voice proclaiming God’s son. The sight, touch, and sound of the Lord overwhelmed them, and they dropped to their knees in awe and fear.

The next thing they felt was the gentle touch of their teacher’s hand.

The next thing they heard was his voice saying ā€œDon’t be afraid.ā€

The next thing they saw was his beloved face, just as they had always known it.

By their senses they had felt, heard, and seen God’s stunning glory. Now these same senses brought them reassurance, comfort, and calling. By sight, touch, and sound, God had amazed them on the mountain; by sight, touch, and sound, Jesus brought them back.

Through you, may others be inspired to praise God!
