But you must continue with the things you have learned and found convincing. You know who taught you. Since childhood you have known the holy scriptures that help you to be wise in a way that leads to salvation through faith that is in Christ Jesus. Every scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing mistakes, for correcting, and for training character, so that the person who belongs to God can be equipped to do everything that is good.

At some point, most of us have quit or given up on something. As a child, I quit cello, flute, and cheerleading. Later, I quit color guard. In college, I stopped taking German once I filled a foreign language requirement. In most of these scenarios, I made my decision because the learning process, initially exciting, had started to become less fun.

While I don’t regret every time I’ve quit something or set it aside, I do sometimes wonder: where would I be if I had stuck with those things? Would I know how to play the cello? Would I be fluent in German? In addition to halting our learning when we quit something, we often eventually forget the things we had already learned!

Today’s passage reminds us that much of learning is about continuing. There will be times when learning our faith is no longer fun and fresh – but be assured that this is a normal stage of learning. Continue onward to learn some more!

God, I know sometimes I want to quit talking to you or following you. Give me the strength and inspiration to always continue this journey towards your heart. Amen.
