Ordinary Time

The stakes are high. The road is long. But your Savior walks with you, steadying your feet along the way.
Breathe in and remember God’s hope for you — that your journey may lead to God’s Kingdom come here, now, and forever.
Listen
Look here! Today I’ve set before you life and what’s good versus death and what’s wrong. If you obey the Lord your God’s commandments that I’m commanding you right now by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments, his regulations, and his case laws, then you will live and thrive, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess. But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen, and so are misled, worshipping other gods and serving them, I’m telling you right now that you will definitely die. You will not prolong your life on the fertile land that you are crossing the Jordan River to enter and possess.

“Congratulations! Today is your day! You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself, any direction you choose.” Dr. Seuss writes these words in Oh, The Places You’ll Go! for those of us on a journey. Imagine beginning each morning with these well-known words.
Imagine: Today is your day. Tuesday is your day. Wednesday is your day. Every day, you have all you need – and the direction you walk is up to you.
God asks, “What will you choose? Will you choose what is good and what lasts, or will you choose what is wrong and dies?”
Though our choice may seem simple, God’s commands for us may be difficult. Many days, it’s easier not to listen for God’s voice. Not to obey. Not to follow. But God says, “Today, I give you a choice.”
Today. Each day. We have the choice to walk forward with God or step away from God. Which direction will you choose?

Today, Oh God, give me brains in my head and feet in my shoes, and help me to choose the direction that’s good. Amen.

Go. Take the next step, confident that the One who set the stakes high walks the road with you. Do not lose sight of what is good.
