Journey to the Cross

Pause

Loving God, bring your Word to life for me today. Plant it deep in my heart. Give me ears to hear your tender voice.

Listen

I received a tradition from the Lord, which I also handed on to you: on the night on which he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread. After giving thanks, he broke it and said, ā€œThis is my body, which is for you; do this to remember me.ā€ He did the same thing with the cup, after they had eaten, saying, ā€œThis cup is the new covenant in my blood. Every time you drink it, do this to remember me.ā€ Every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you broadcast the death of the Lord until he comes.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

Think

Jesus call us to into the radical act of remembrance. In a way, it is a call to civil disobedience, a countercultural call to depart from a world obsessed with living in the moment and shaping the future. He calls us to remember.

He whispers, ā€œRemember that meal we shared? Remember how I broke that bread and fed you. Remember how I shared a cup that I promised would be my blood. Remember when I washed your feet? Remember our closeness, our intimacy. Remember what happened next?ā€

In our remembrance and reflection, we eventually drift back into the present, but perhaps we see ā€œthe momentā€ differently now. Perhaps we see it through a special knowing. We know that we are loved. We know we are spoken for. We know that Jesus is near to feed us, wash us, and heal us. We know. Yes. We know all we need to know.

Pray

Jesus, thank you for bringing meĀ back to the table of grace, the table of knowing. Remind meĀ that I can only know myself by remembering to know you. Amen.

Go

To believe in Jesus is to receive his costly love. To follow him is to share that love with others.

How will you share the love of Jesus today?
