Following the Star

What's in a name?

Jesus' name means “God saves.” That's a powerful message to be reminded of every time you hear the name.

Remember that God saves. Remember that God is with you. Remember that you are never alone.

Listen

When the angels returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go right now to Bethlehem and see what’s happened. Let’s confirm what the Lord has revealed to us.” They went quickly and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. When they saw this, they reported what they had been told about this child. Everyone who heard it was amazed at what the shepherds told them.

Luke 2:15-18

Think

Sometimes we hear a lot of talk at church. There is a lot of talk about how good God is and how loving and caring God is. We read in the Bible about God’s teachings and the reality of God’s presence in humanity made known in Jesus. We sing songs about God’s goodness and support for the Church and ourselves. We hear sermons and homilies, proclaiming to us God’s working in out lives. We encounter these messages a lot, and at the moment they may very well move us, and we find ourselves built up in our faith. But what next?

The shepherds heard from angels about God’s presence in the infant Jesus. They heard of God’s love and care for the world. But then they went and confirmed that it was all true. It was not just a passing message or thought.

Today, take some time to make the connections, to confirm the message of Christ in your life. Find the place that makes it all real to you.
