This week we consider the Lord’s work. What is work? I’ve held a bunch of jobs. As a boy, I mowed yards, threw papers, did homework. As a man, I’ve changed diapers, put up Christmas lights, helped my children with school projects, taught classes, graded papers…  These things have been my work. Sometimes I’ve been up to my tasks; many times I haven’t.

What about those times when we don’t feel up to the task? Growing up I had a very large uncle. You know, the kind of guy that fills a doorway when he stands in it! I always felt safe around my Uncle Bill — no matter what I was facing. Today’s verses make us realize we have a BIG Lord. God’s work, God’s creation and presence, are awesome. The psalmist says that God’s enemies are out of their league.

This God is in YOUR corner — at school, at home, and at work — ALWAYS there. Today, know that the God of creation is with you. God’s got this.

God of creation, let me feel your bigness today. Make your presence fill me with joy. Let that joy spill out to others in my path. Amen.

Mother Teresa once wrote that we can let God’s grace work in our souls by accepting whatever God gives us and giving whatever God takes from us. She says: “True holiness consists of doing God’s work with a smile.”
