Love enters the world of its own accord, for its own reasons. And love is always accompanied by light. That is, love always illuminates the space it occupies.

Watch now for love to enlighten your world. Look to see what new understanding is yours in the presence of love.

Listen

You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another.

John 15:16-17

Think

Chosen. Now this is a word that we all want to hear. It feels good to be chosen by someone else. It feels good to feel special.

In today’s scripture we are told that Jesus has chosen us. It kind of feels like we are special because we are chosen to be on Jesus’ team.

However, when we read more closely, we discover that Jesus chose us for a reason — to go and bear fruit. What kind of fruit? What does this mean?

Jesus knows that when we follow God’s commandments, we are not only living in a way that is more consistent with what is good for us and what God wants for us – we are also living in a way that blesses the world. Jesus chose us to bless the world with God’s love by the way that we live.

Pray

God, help me to be a blessing to the world around me as I strive to live in the light of your love and follow your commandments for my life. Amen.

Go

As a friend of God,
Go now with the gift of love.
Be prepared to receive joy,
For joy is love's result.
And be set free in your faith,
A faith that does not burden you,
But frees you also to love.
