Peace is certainly something we can want and pray for in our world. There is much unrest and violence that disrupts the peace of humanity. We can work to settle disputes and discourage violence, but perhaps peace starts closer to home.

Perhaps peace in our world begins with peace in our own lives. We each have places of unrest, and perhaps if we work for peace here, inside our lives, we might be able to know more of God’s peace in the world.

When you are ready, click on “The Word of God” below for today's scripture and then continue to follow the remaining steps of the devotion.

Listen

“Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day catch you unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Luke 21:34-36

Think

Feeling overwhelmed can seem like just a normal part of life. We place more and more pressure upon ourselves, trying to fit everything into our lives. You might experience this with school, sports, clubs, church, youth group, service projects, hanging out with friends, college visits, etc.

Do you ever just feel tired? Or like you want to escape from it all for just a little while? I think this is pretty normal for most people, but I think the escapes we use (shopping, movies, drugs or alcohol) just hide the fact that we do not have peace.

Part of peace is finding balance in our lives. Make a list of all that you do and prioritize it. What stays? What goes?

Pray

God there is so much to do and to get done. Help me to know what I can leave for tomorrow and what cannot wait. Help me to find your peace in the balance. Amen.
