Pause
Staying after it. Not giving up. Being stubborn.
Persistence. It's hard to say just where this characteristic comes from, but in the life of faith we can say that, when we do not give up on matters of righteousness, persistence has its source in God.
That is because there is none so persistent, so faithful as this One we follow. Make it your intent, just in these next few moments, to be focused on listening for God.
Listen
I lift up my eyes to the hills — from where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore.

Think
I have Attention Deficit Disorder and have always struggled to be consistent. I struggle just to make it through the day without forgetting something. No matter how much I struggle, I always forget this or that.
There are many days when I forget very important things. On these days, I fall into a pit of sadness at my own failings. This is true for many people, whether they have ADD or not. The only consistent thing I can hold on to is my belief that God holds me in the palms of God’s hands. God is always covering me in protection and in grace. This mysterious grace helps me just to get through the day. Grace helps me to get through not just the tough days, but each and every day.
God never slumbers or sleeps but always keeps watch over me and everyone else. It is so reassuring to know that God is a persistent God, a persistent God who covers my own inconsistent ways.

God, I am not consistent in my life. But God, you are always persistent in watching over me. You watch and protect me. You guide my every footstep. Help me to find comfort in this fact. Help me to be reassured that your love is always helping me in this journey of life. Amen.

Offer praise to God our Savior because of our Lord Jesus Christ! Only God can keep you from falling and make you pure and joyful in his glorious presence. Before time began and now and forevermore, God is worthy of glory, honor, power, and authority. Amen.
