Ordinary Time

Pause

God be the love to search and keep me
God be the prayer to move my voice
God be the strength to now uphold me
O Christ, surround me
O Christ, surround me

from “O Christ, Surround Me” by Richard Bruxvoort Colligan (2004)

Listen

Then Hannah prayed:

My heart rejoices in the Lord. My strength rises up in the Lord! My mouth mocks my enemies because I rejoice in your deliverance. No one is holy like the Lord— no, no one except you! There is no rock like our God!

1 Samuel 2:1-2

Think

God has answered Hannah’s persistent prayers! In celebration of her son Samuel, she can’t help but offer thanksgiving and praise to God. Her words remind us that God is the height of holiness and strength.

When it feels like life’s waves are way too stormy, God can be an anchor. When you feel alone, hear God’s assurance that you are anything but that. Rejoicing in God doesn’t mean life is easy all the time. But what if, everywhere we went, we got into the habit of looking for glimpses of the holy and giving thanks? God speaks to us through the listening ear of a friend on a hard day. God speaks to us through art and music that breathe new perspective into our life experiences. God speaks to us through the little green plant poking up through a crack in the sidewalk. How are you listening? How will you respond?

Pray

God who grounds me, lead my heart, my mouth, my hands, and my feet to praise you in all that I do. Help me to embrace your steadfast love, so I might share it with others. Amen.

Go

With a hopeful heart and Spirit-filled steps,

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
