Ordinary Time

Pause

As we read the words of Scripture, take a moment and reflect on how God’s word has encouraged you and could bring action steps into your life.

“For the word of God is living and active…” (Hebrews 4:12, ESV)

Listen

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.

Psalm 1:1-3

Think

I recently went to the beach for a week. My days were spent sleeping in and sitting by the ocean. My body was so relaxed but my soul felt completely parched. During this trip, I neglected my time reading the Bible and in prayer. I had no idea how much reading Scripture fed my soul until I stopped doing it. I found myself distracted and discontented. God’s word is rest for my soul. I was in one of the most beautiful, peaceful places yet felt weary. This world and its beauty are fleeting. “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever” (Isaiah 40:8).

The Psalmist says that meditating on the law of the Lord promises fruitfulness and fulfillment. Not convinced? Would you dare take 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week, for the next month, and soak in the words of Scripture? I believe you would see more fruit, more fulfilment, more love for God’s word and more peace in your life! What do you have to lose?

Pray

God, I believe your word fuels me and guides me in truth. It is a stream of water in a dry and weary land. Give me a heart to commit to your word. Make me a lover of Scripture. Amen.
