Pause

From the time we are children, we try to determine when and where safety can be counted on. That doesn't mean we don't take chances, even dangerous ones.

But we can be sure that safety is always found wherever God is. That doesn't mean life isn't dangerous, however.

In a dangerous world, find your safe place now, quietly, in the heart of God.

Listen

If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son. Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son.

1 John 5:9-10

Think

Most of the really big news we get comes by way of others, especially from those whose job it is to inform us about what is going on in the larger world – you know, talking heads on the TV news shows and such.

Learning about Jesus, for most of us, happened in much the same way – from others. Your dad read a Bible story to you; a Sunday School teacher – with paste and magazine cutouts – helped you to express that same story on construction paper; or maybe a friend pulled you aside one day to tell you how Jesus changed her life.

Those are very important sources for learning the gospel story, but they are not the most authoritative.

No, the best source for understanding Jesus is God, who sent Jesus to show us how to live, and now continues to speak to our hearts. We’d better listen!

Pray

God, speak to me about Jesus today. Help me to see him at work in the world and then help me to follow him wherever you would have me also to go. Amen.

Go

There is a place of quiet rest,
Near to the heart of God;
A place where sin cannot molest,
Near to the heart of God.

O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before you
Near to the heart of God.
