Journey to the Cross

Pause

This week, we share this Good News: Christ is Risen! Our long wait is over!

Stop and take a deep breath, breathing in the joy of Easter morning; breathe out the fear and doubt of the night that has passed.

God sees you today and loves you as you are.

Who needs to be seen by you today? Look up, so you can share the good news.

Listen

This is the message that we have heard from him and announce to you: “God is light and there is no darkness in him at all.” If we claim, “We have fellowship with him,” and live in the darkness, we are lying and do not act truthfully. But if we live in the light in the same way as he is in the light, we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from every sin. If we claim, “We don’t have any sin,” we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from everything we’ve done wrong.

1 John 1:5-9

Think

If you have ever been in a completely dark room, you know that we can see the tiniest light – even just one candle. God is full on light – bright like the sun on a cloudless day. If you can see the sun today, put your face toward it, close your eyes, and you will feel the sun. The light warms, protects, helps us not fear, and transforms the landscape. And so it is with God who transforms us through Jesus.

As Easter People we claim to live in the Light – walking and talking as Light bearers. This doesn’t mean we are perfect or pious. In fact, we are invited to confess and find forgiveness through Jesus. But our work is carrying the Light and speaking the Truth. In a time when social media multiplies the impact of a false story, it is important that we speak truth, and tell the story of Jesus – who loves everyone, who excludes no one, who calls us to protect the immigrant, bring justice to the oppressed and comfort for those who mourn.

Pray

God of the light, I seek your face today. I will also try to reflect that light to everyone I encounter today. I will testify to what I have seen, and I will look to the sun to remind me of your warmth and presence with me every morning. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.

Go

Find your voice today and speak “Peace” to someone in distress.
