Water is powerful – a necessity for life and also a threat to life when it surges out of control.

There is One who is always in the midst of the waters, bringing life every day and sustaining life when it is threatened. This same Spirit is with you now.

Feel and know the Spirit's presence.

Listen

Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.”

Luke 3:21-22

Think

This was earth’s biggest party since creation. Each person of the Trinity was present! Jesus prayed. The Spirit descended. The Father spoke. The picture is one of celebration, worship, and delight. Jesus was beginning his earthly ministry — the same ministry that eventually led to his death and Resurrection. God was saving us humans.

Just as Jesus prayed, we need to pray. Although we don’t see the Spirit in bodily form, the Spirit still very much wants to work in our lives. Just as God celebrated the Son and was pleased by his worship and obedience, God is also pleased when we genuinely worship and obey our Creator.

Will you pray today and ask the Spirit to work in your life? Will you ask for God’s presence in your tasks today? Will you celebrate the presence of the One who also claims you as child?

Pray

Creator, Savior, Spirit, I celebrate you. Please work through my life today, bringing honor to Jesus as I obey you. Amen.

Go

Beside the healing stream,
Drink in the Spirit's power.
In the midst of the whelming flood,
Know the Spirit's care.

Let the Spirit carry you
As the river carries a vessel
To its destination,
To its home.
