Journey to the Cross

Pause

Listen slowly β€”

You can hear something quickly, but you can really only listen slowly. Hearing may happen accidently, but listening only happens intentionally.

Sometimes, the Spirit whispers. Always Love listens.

Listen

At once the Spirit forced Jesus out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among the wild animals, and the angels took care of him.

Mark 1:12-13

Think

What is Jesus doing in the wilderness?

Being. Human.

It has been said, β€œWe all have our crosses to bear…” But, I think equally true, we all have a wilderness to wander.

Faith is always a journey. It is not a moment. It is a marathon.

The wilderness may be a place of discouragement and desolation, but it often becomes the setting for the greatest growth in our faith journeys. We take pictures at the baptism so we will remember, but it is the wandering in the wilderness that makes lasting impressions we can never forget.

Jesus emerged from the wilderness with a purpose. May we do the same.

Pray

God of the Wind and the Wilderness, remind me on this rough road that I never walk alone. As your Spirit sends me to the wilderness, may your Son walk through the wilderness with me. Even in places of darkness and desolation, may I find your plans and purpose at work in me, through me, to me. Amen.

Go

God gives you strength to overcome any struggle, blessings greater than your burdens. This is Good News.
