Ordinary Time

Pause

“O Lord,
calm me into a quietness
that heals
and listens,
and molds my longings
and my passions,
my wounds,
and wonderings
into a more holy
and human
shape.”

Todd Loder, Guerrillas of Grace, 1984

Listen

God says, “Because you are devoted to me, I’ll rescue you. I’ll protect you because you know my name. Whenever you cry out to me, I’ll answer. I’ll be with you in troubling times. I’ll save you and glorify you. I’ll fill you full with old age. I’ll show you my salvation.”

Psalm 91:14-16

Think

There is a wide misconception of who can enter the Kingdom of God. Let me try to set the record straight:

You are a part of the Kingdom of God. Right now — today. You are a beautiful piece of God’s creation. You are an important child of God, and your Creator loves you infinitely and endlessly.

The best part of this message is that God doesn’t want you to wait to be perfect and whole before you come to God. God wants you to come in your mess. Whatever you are struggling with, God wants you to know that you do not carry the burden alone. God is holding you up, walking with you, and loving you regardless.

God wants you to share that love with others. Loving the world despite your insecurities and brokenness is what followers of Jesus are charged to do. We are to jump head first into the open arms of God, and to take that love out to all the people we encounter.

Pray

Thank you, God! For your open, welcoming arms and for love abundant. I lift up my sufferings and joys, the places where I am broken and whole, my entire life, to you. Thank you for taking me in to your Kingdom and for loving me. Amen.

Go

“It’s gonna be alright
Turn around and let back in the light
And joy will come
Like a bird in the morning sun
And all will be made well
Once again”

Josh Garrels, “Morning Light,” 2015
