Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my clothes?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing in on you; how can you say, ‘Who touched me?’” He looked all around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling, fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”

Think

In this text Mark gives us a glimpse of the fully divine, fully human Jesus. The woman who touched Jesus was healed immediately, yet the two of them never even spoke. Jesus knew that healing power left his body, yet inquired among the crowd as to who intentionally touched him.

What we don’t know is if Jesus actually didn’t know who reached out for him or if he was hoping the woman would publicly profess her faith. Understandably fearful, the woman approached Jesus, trembling, and told him she sought him out so she would be whole again. We know that Jesus responded in grace and sent her away in peace, but can you imagine the courage it took for her to kneel at the feet of the Great Physician?

Pray

God of healing power, grant me the courage to boldly approach the Great Physician with deep faith. Enable me to articulate my belief to others. I pray in the name of the One who sends believers on their way with peace and grace. Amen

Go now with anticipation that God may, in the most surprising moment, bring to you the healing you seek, the wholeness you desire. May this be your prayer:

Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved; for you are my praise. (Jeremiah 17:14)
