Pause

Then the father said to him, "Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has come to life; he was lost and has been found.'" (Luke 15:31-32)

God’s blessing is ours as a gift of grace. Yet too often we feel too busy or unworthy to enjoy it.

So come whether you feel lost or found, prodigal or faithful today. Pause, abide, and refresh in the way to blessing.

Listen

O Lord, who may abide in your tent? Who may dwell on your holy hill? Those who walk blamelessly, and do what is right, and speak the truth from their heart; who do not slander with their tongue, and do no evil to their friends, nor take up a reproach against their neighbors; in whose eyes the wicked are despised, but who honor those who fear the Lord; who stand by their oath even to their hurt; who do not lend money at interest, and do not take a bribe against the innocent. Those who do these things shall never be moved.

Psalm 15

Think

Where do you like to pitch your tent? While I was a chaplain in Yosemite and later apprenticing on a farm, some of my holiest places were inside the canvas walls of a tent. Living simply yet lavished in God’s natural wonders, I’ve been blessed to invite others into grace’s freedom and responsibility. Where do you feel closest to God’s holiness?

In our culture of buying, posting/liking/texting, and conforming to society’s nutty pace, how can we best abide in God’s blessing in our everyday lives?

Today’s psalm isn’t a checklist for earning God’s blessing, but a call for how we might enjoy God faithfully. God’s richest blessings are already ours as a gift of grace! When we speak from our hearts, stand by beliefs even when costly, and choose not to profit from others’ distress but rather partner in living more joyfully together, we better experience and share the depths of God’s love and blessing.

Pray

God of love, I know I don’t walk blamelessly, even though I generally try to do what’s right. Thank you for making room for me in your tent anyway. Thank you for inviting me to abide in your blessings of grace, justice, and love. Be with me today as I journey along your way of blessing and your way to blessing others. Amen.

Go

We’re blessed to be a blessing.

Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen, and the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:8-9).
