Ordinary Time

Pause

Faith is a road we walk. It takes us through the wonderful and the terrible times alike. This road has highs and lows and stretches far and wide.

In our darkness, the road can feel lonely; our steps falter, and our hearts and minds slip farther from love and truth.

Have faith, dear one, Jesus has promised that we will not walk that road alone.

Listen

Then Jesus said to them, “You foolish people! Your dull minds keep you from believing all that the prophets talked about. Wasn’t it necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and then enter into his glory?” Then he interpreted for them the things written about himself in all the scriptures, starting with Moses and going through all the Prophets.

Luke 24:25-27

Think

Sometimes we need to be pushed. We need to be told the story over and over. We are not always in a place where the story can penetrate our hearts. We are not always willing to accept the truth as truth. We are skeptical by nature; doubt can easily flair up and take hold of our minds.

It doesn’t mean you aren’t a good Christian if you doubt. Doubt is very normal. Just make sure you don’t fester in it. Take the time to learn the story. If you have a question or you are confused about something, talk to your faith community. Go to the people who can help you interpret the scriptures. Work hard to open your mind and your heart to the word of God. Learning the story and trusting the story is part of the road we walk. When in doubt, return to the source.

Pray

Lord, teach me the story. Guide my heart to your word and help me to believe. When doubt takes hold, help me to return to your ways. Help me to trust. Amen.

Go

Do not fear the road unknown, the twists and turns, and difficult terrain.

Remember the Lord will always meet you where you are.

The journey may be long, and the going may get tough, but it is always easier when you walk the road with a friend.
