The Bible tells us that God was at work in Jesus, bringing about God’s will in the world.

But you may wonder just what that looks like. What was God up to in the life of Christ?

This time you have chosen to give yourself to quiet devotion may give you a clue. See if you can learn more about God now.

Listen

That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. And the whole city was gathered around the door. And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

Mark 1:32-34

Think

As Jesus continued through his ministry, he encountered all kinds of people. He healed them and cast out demons. Jesus came to bring healing, and he also came to bring light to the darkness.

When I think of demons, I have a tendency to think of scary movies or TV shows. I think of darkness, uncertainty, and fear. Jesus came to change that — to bring light to darkness, to be a source of hope and love.

We all face times of darkness in our lives, whether through situations at home, school, times of loss or change. The comfort we can find through faith in Christ will not make those situations disappear, but it will help us remember that we are not alone.

Pray

God of light, as I face times of darkness, help me know that you are there. Thank you for your love, and help me be a source of light in someone else’s life today. Amen.

Go

Whatever you are facing,
No matter how hard the road,
Christ is still in Jesus,
Helping to carry your load.
