Ordinary Time

Pause

There are two steps in the process: first, you must listen, paying attention to what is being shared. Then, you must hear; that means you try to take in all the meaning of what you’ve been listening to, making an effort to understand.

Living in relationship with another requires that you are willing to become vulnerable to the life and experience of another, and care enough to experience it yourself—at least to some small degree.

Listen. God is speaking. Do you hear?

Listen

For you shall go out in joy, and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall burst into song, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall be to the Lord for a memorial, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

Isaiah 55:12–13

Think

I have always wondered what it would be like to be in one of those animated movies where someone steps outside first thing in the morning, bursts into song, and is immediately greeted by singing birds, a dancing sun, and a brilliant rainbow painted across the sky.

While I am fairly positive that most people have not had this experience in real life, there is something to be said for those times when God’s presence is so profound that my spirit does feel like bursting out in joyful song. Too often, we do not allow ourselves to be joyful, to possess a joy that touches our hearts, minds, and spirits, letting us know that God is indeed present and moving. As much as we need to be humble in our faith, we must also allow ourselves to rejoice in the knowledge that God is present and all around us.

Pray

God, give me a spirit to hear your creation song with joy and to let my heart be filled with the same. Amen.

Go

As you go throughout your day, will you listen? God is speaking and you will be wise to pay attention.

Hear what God is saying. Feel the power of God’s voice and go then wherever you may be directed. There is life abundant within for your journey.
