Ordinary Time
O God, you will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are fixed on you;
for in returning and rest we shall be saved;
in quietness and trust shall be our strength.
Based on Isaiah 26:3 and 30:15
Some people trust in chariots, others in horses; but we praise the Lord’s name. They will collapse and fall, but we will stand up straight and strong.
Lord, save the king! Let him answer us when we cry out!
Psalm 20:7-9
Trust is a funny thing. Some people put their trust in things very easily. Other people have a hard time trusting anyone or anything. The truth is, we all have to trust things and people every day, whether it’s the chair we’re sitting in, the transportation we take, the people who grow our food, or the doctors who take care of us.
The best part about trust is that it is yours to give and receive. We often look at the people or things in our world that seem strong, and we feel like they can be trusted. Trust isn’t about outer strength. Jesus didn’t appear strong or powerful on the outside, but he demonstrated the strength and power of love. Sometimes outward appearances can fool us, but we can always trust in God’s love and grace.

Question to Ponder:
How does it feel to be fooled by something or someone you thought you could trust?
Lord who saves, teach us to put our trust in what lasts instead of things that wither away.
Amen.
May the peace of God reign in this place
and the love of God forever hold you tight.
May the Spirit of God flow through your life
and the joy of God uphold you day and night.
