Pause

There is much that brings us comfort in our faith. It is encouraging to know that God is near.

But there is much about faith that is demanding too. We can't simply "sleepwalk" through life, believing that God is only caring.

In these next moments, consider what God really and truly wants you to be and wants you to do.

Listen

Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17

Think

Cake is almost always better at a party. Even a lopsided, misshapen, sloppy frosted wreck of a cake can still be wonderful with good friends. Following Jesus is often like baking a cake. It can be lopsided, messy, sloppy, and even a wreck, and still be amazing. Just look at the disciples!

You are God’s holy temple. God lives in you, walks with you, and works through you. Even when you are messy or a wreck, God uses you, messes and all, to invite others to the party where angels sing. Your life is where God lives, and that is worth celebrating.

That’s why faith is so demanding. God knows you are capable of great things.

Pray

Lord, thank you for believing in me and using me to change the world. Thank you for making me an instrument of your love. Amen.

Go

God is love, it's true.
And to follow God is to grow in love.

Watch along the path of your life today
For opportunities to yield to love.
To give in;
To place yourself at risk
For that human and most divine virtue,
The most demanding of all.
