Ordinary Time
Knowing God is an intensely personal journey.
But it’s a journey we need to take in community,
where we find validation, challenge, new perspectives,
a shared story that gives shape to our prayers.
Enter into this solitary moment of prayer, knowing that you are forever beckoned into community by God and with God.
“Whoever has my commandments and keeps them loves me. Whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.”
John 14:21
“Because I said so.”
Before I had children, I vowed never to ask them to obey something they did not understand. Back then I thought that as a parent, I would always make sure my child understood the “why” before expecting them to obey. Then the day came that I used the phrase above after a whole lot of explanation. The rule had been an extension of my love for my daughter; her trust and obedience were expressions of her love for me. Her disobedience felt like distrust of me.
Knowing God as a loving, just, gracious, benevolent Creator means God knows what is best for us. To obey demonstrates our trust and gives us the best opportunity to live into that for which we have been created.

God, help me to rest in your way, trusting that you know what is best.
Amen.
Endeavor to keep finding God.
Uncover, rediscover, know,
and then be completely surprised by God,
revealed in all that is around us and all that is within us.
