Journey to the Cross

Pause

Take a moment to close your eyes and think of something different… a place, a feeling, a particular song that reminds you of God’s love.

Listen

Have mercy on me, God, according to your faithful love! Wipe away my wrongdoings according to your great compassion! Wash me completely clean of my guilt; purify me from my sin!

Psalm 51:1-2

Think

Confession is an act of courage and humility. In the Bible, we find many psalms that are prayers of confession, sincere expressions of hearts that recognize their need for God. Confession is not only about admitting our mistakes, but also about recognizing how our actions, thoughts, or words have distanced us from God and from others. It is an act of sincerity that frees us from the burden of guilt and allows us to experience God’s restoring grace.

The most beautiful thing about confession is that it does not leave us in shame but brings us into the merciful embrace of God, who receives us with unconditional love. In God’s endearing tenderness, God does not condemn us, but restores us, cleanses us, and restores peace to us. Thinking of God as a mother figure reminds us that God’s love is faithful, constant, and deep, always ready to heal us with mercy.

Question to Ponder:

What areas of your life need to be brought into God’s light to experience forgiveness and restoration?

Pray

I come to you, with an open heart, full of guilt and desiring your forgiveness. Wash my life! Cleanse my works! Give me your peace! Amen.

Go

Close your eyes and take a deep breath.

God’s forgiveness fills us with peace.

When you go out, share that peace with others.
