As Jesus rode along, they spread their clothes on the road.

As Jesus approached the road leading down from the Mount of Olives, the whole throng of his disciples began rejoicing. They praised God with a loud voice because of all the mighty things they had seen. They said,

“Blessings on the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heavens.”

Luke 19:36-38

Think

When Jesus made his entry into Jerusalem, the atmosphere was like that of a parade. There was so much energy and so much excitement for this one entry… Jesus. They were not there to see each other. They were not there to see bands and floats. All the energy, excitement, and emotion were for one entry that rode into Jerusalem on a borrowed donkey. Jesus.

Those rejoicing were his disciples. These were people who had witnessed and experienced his miracle-working power in their lives or in the lives of others. These disciples were fishermen, tax collectors, Samaritans, prostitutes, blind men, demoniacs, and cripples. These were disciples who knew what it meant to be oppressed, to suffer, to know that they had problems only Jesus could solve. And because of what they’ve witnessed and experienced, they couldn’t do anything else but praise Jesus in loud voices.

When you think about Jesus, is there anything that causes you to rejoice? Is there anything that causes you to smile and your heart to leap for joy? Then praise him!

God, I find joy when I think about Jesus! He is worthy to be praised! Amen.
