Journey to the Cross

Pause

Every morning is an opportunity to choose joy!

Listen

After Jesus said this, he continued on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

As Jesus came to Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives, he gave two disciples a task. He said, “Go into the village over there. When you enter it, you will find tied up there a colt that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say, ‘Its master needs it.’”

Luke 19:28-31

Think

How many of you love a parade? There is so much energy and so much excitement at a parade. Many go to parades to see who’s in it. We like the floats. We like the bands. We like to see what celebrities or dignitaries will be featured. Some folks like going just to see the people who’ve come out. We go to watch others; especially the kids get caught up in the excitement of it all.

Yet with every entry in a parade there requires some preparation. Jesus is preparing to make an entry into a parade-like atmosphere filled with excitement and joy. To prepare, Jesus makes an odd request of two disciples: go into the village and retrieve a colt (donkey) that has never been ridden. And if anyone asks, “Why are you taking it?” just say, “Its master needs it.”

What odd requests do you feel Jesus has made of you? Could it be that Jesus “needs it” to do something mind-blowing for you or through you?

Pray

God, I can’t always make sense of the things you want me to do. Sometimes they just defy logic! Give me the courage to say yes to your call and direction and the patience to trust you with the outcome! Amen.

Go

As you go forth today remember this about God:

“Keep on making a way
Over and over again
You're always bringing me out
Over and over again
Lord, You've done so much
All to You I owe...
I will ever sing Your praise
Glory to Your name
Keep on making a way for me”
