You have probably heard the phrase “actions speak louder than words.” If there is a moment where this phrase could be applied to Jesus’ teachings, it is in Jesus’ command to love one another. Our love for Jesus is revealed in how well we actually love one another – not simply saying we love one another. Love requires action.

If you say you love your friends, it means you are there for them in times of need. If you say you love your spouse, it means you are faithful to them, respect them, and seek the best for them. When love isn’t put into action, relationships crumble. All our talk about love means nothing if we don’t live out love for others to see.

Jesus places love within the context of relationships. He often uses the image of family to describe his relationship to God and his relationship to us. Love is revealed in how we relate to one another. In giving, serving, and caring for one another, we see Jesus among us.

Loving God, thank you for loving me and including me within your family. Help me to give love away as well as I receive it, seeing you as I seek to love you. Amen.

Go and chase the love that has called you,

Go and seek the truth that has found you,

Go and rest in the peace that grounds you,

Recognizing God is with you wherever you may go.
